Tomas Saraceno features in How to Spend it magazine
“The Visionaries: meet the eco Spider-Man”
(Financial Times, How to Spend It, April 18th 2020)
The esteemed Argentinian artist, Tomas Saraceno, has been featured in the prestigious luxury supplement of the FT Weekend newspaper, How to Spend It. In an article by journalist Emma Crichton-Miller, Saraceno has been coined the “eco Spider-Man” in recognition of his iconic Algo-r(h)i(y)thms (2018), an immersive installation at the Palais de Tokyo. However, the article takes a closer look at his most recent artistic exploit, the launch of Saraceno’s flying machine, Aerocene Pacha. The flight of this teardrop-shaped machine over an Argentinian salt flat in January 2020 also marks the first time in history that a human has been transported through the air powered by the wind and the sun alone rather than non-renewable energy sources. Not only is this a visual spectacle, but a comment on the climate crises. Saraceno proves, through this artistic, political act, that the time has come to put the environment first in all feats of human design.
